Are you attending your first ILN conference? Join us for a special First Timers’ Reception to kick off your San Diego experience. This informal gathering gives new attendees a chance to meet members of the ILN Board, the Executive Director, and fellow first-time delegates in a relaxed setting before the full evening begins. It’s a great opportunity to start building connections and ask questions ahead of the week’s events.

Companion Tour 
Balboa Park  

Companions will enjoy a walking tour of San Diego’s famous Balboa Park, home to over 1,200 acres of renowned gardens, fountains, architecture, museums, and San Diego’s zoo. At the end of the tour, guests will have some time to explore the Spanish Village Art Center, where they can stroll through the working studios where more than 200 local artists display their work.

Group networking catamaran sail 

Attendees will enjoy a sunshine-soaked sail along San Diego’s coastline, taking in some of the city's famous sites such as the USS Midway aircraft carrier, Coronado Bridge, Coronado Island, and a view of downtown from the water. With music, drinks, sea breeze, and views, this activity will provide attendees with a chance to network and sightsee in a fun and informal setting.

Overlooking the La Jolla Cove, Duke’s serves genuine, friendly hospitality with contemporary interpretations of traditional Hawaiian plates. Dining on their outdoor patio, delegates will enjoy a selection of fresh fish and accompanying sea breezes.

Companions & Delegates: Afternoon Activities
Networking tour, option 1: USS Midway Museum tour 

The USS Midway Museum is a must-see experience unique to San Diego. Step onboard the United States’ longest-serving aircraft carrier of the 20th century, where you can walk through the ship’s massive hangars, explore and climb inside real fighter jets, and hear stories from Navy veterans. Attendees will have a one-hour guided tour and then free time to explore aspects of the carrier that interest them the most.

Networking tour, option 2: Hike of Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve Park

Stretch your legs on this and work up a sweat on this guided hike through the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve Park. The path will be selected by an experienced guide on the day, but we look forward to panoramic views of the beautiful coastline and cliffs, sandstone gorges, and diverse plants and wildlife, including rare and critically endangered Torrey pine species.

Please note, this activity will be strenuous at points and should only be undertaken by individuals in good health, wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for hiking. 

Companions & Delegates: Afternoon Activities Networking tour, option 3: Kayaking in La Jolla

During this 90-minute kayak through the protected La Jolla Ecological Reserve and Underwater Park, attendees will get to experience California’s beach culture, observe several species of marine life and visit five different marine environments: sandy beach, rocky reefs, sea cliffs, kelp forest and deep-water canyons, all within 2 square miles of each other. As well as the beautiful coastline, attendees are likely to see sea lions, leopard sharks, pelicans, cormorants, and La Jolla’s sea caves.

Please note, attendees will be paired up in double kayaks, and this activity should only be undertaken by individuals in good health and comfortable with sea swimming.

Companions & Delegates:  Dinner at Herb & Wood

Herb & Wood is located in San Diego’s trendy Little Italy district. Guests will be treated to a welcome drink in Herbert’s Bar, before sitting for down for a family-style dinner in The Gallery. Dishes comprise of rustic wood-fired Mediterranean flavours and Californian seasonality. After dinner, we will have musical entertainment to dance the night away to.
